Overview

The resources on this page are directly relevant to teaching business studies with a focus on economics. Resources listed here usually contain activities designed for the secondary classroom that teachers may download and use immediately. There are listed a number of economics sites from overseas that offer excellent examples of economics lessons as well. Generally these will be well known to most teachers.

Australian

ComNet The VCTA web site in the classroom sections offers many examples lessons written both for the new and old VCE Economics courses.

Austrade The student center at Austrade offers the most comprehensive collection of statistics, case studies and activities on Australian trade available anywhere. These resources are current and extremely useful for teachers.

ASX The ASX has created a great set of activities to support the Australian stock market game. These are designed to introduce share trading to novices. They are very useful for the section of finance in the new study design.

ABS Overworked and underpaid the ABS education section is updating its activities to support measuring Australia's economy. There are many examples of lesson plans using economic statistics.They are in the education section, teacher tools and classroom activities.

Curriculum Corporation The curriculum corporation is developing materials on financial literacy and houses materials on Australia's democracy that are useful for economics teachers. It currently has developed a kit on taxation for students.

Queensland Economic Teachers Association QETA offers many resources and publications for its members. Nearly of all these are relevant to the Victorian course and many teachers may find this a useful source of economics material for their classrooms.

Global Education This is a great site dedicated to global education and with stacks of activities ready to run.

Leading Edge Economics This site is produced by Tim Riley in NSW to support his textbooks and other publications. The site carries many current useful articles for VCE Economics.

Environmental Protection Authority The EPA houses many fact sheets and other materials that are extremely useful in the classroom.

Mr Wood.com A commercially developed site for VCE Economics teachers that contains useful and exciting resources material in it.

Money Stuff This an excellent kit and set of resources dealing with consumer education. CAV Consumer Affairs Victoria. Their web site also contains useful resource material for teachers of consumer affairs.

DollarsandSense A Financial education web site developed by the Commonwealth Bank.

Personal Financial Education Group UK A Financial Education site developed in the UK for secondary schools.

Australian Bankers Association Historically the ABA made its financial education and banking materials available from its web site. Currently their are many useful fact sheets there and hopefully the banking activities will re appear.

International Resources

Biz/ed This is the world's premiere business studies site. It contains on and offline lessons for the UK syallbus. Much of the material here can be easily adapted for Australian classrooms. In particular Biz Ed has some fantastic material on markets, Well worth a look.

National Council on Economic Education This site is an open door into US secondary economics resources.

EconEdLink This is a US site but it has a fantastic collection of economics lessons online and a great directory of links to US secondary economics resources. Activities here are continually updated and often deal with topical issues such as digital TV. Despite the fact that this is a US site there many activities that are relevant to Australia.

EceWeb Kim Sosin from National Association of Economic Educators The first main secondary economics directories and still one of the best.

McRel offers a good list of US economic resources as well.

Bill Goffe's Resources for Economists on the Internet This is one of the oldest directories of web resources for economists and still one of the best.

Worldwide Web Resources in Economics This like Bill Goffe's site was one of the early pioneers in this area and remains one of the best directories of Economic Resources on the Net. It also has a section devoted to the teaching of Economics.

Robert Dixon's Resources for Economics Teachers on the Internet from Melbourne University. This is a great list of resources with a focus on Australia. It was also one of the first resource of this type in Australia.
