Video and audio files are usually offered by all the main TV stations. The ABC is probably the best single source for these files. Late line, the 7-30 report and 4 Corners provide a great deal of video footage for users. 4 corners also produces web specials and these are fabulous classroom resources to use with students. A growing army of independent film makers are putting short video clips on the Internet. Some of these are suitable for use in Economics. Teachers should inspect all open source videos before they use them with students. There is no rating system or quality control system in place. For example live footage of the tsunami in phuket is far too distressing to use in the secondary classroom.
Google Video Search Google has developed a video search engine and is building a directory of video links. Categories of video's available include educational, music, TV shows, sports and movies.
Australian Broadccasting Corporation ABC Online Teachers who wish to purchase topical videos on current economic issues will find a list of ABC offerings at Program Sales. Teachers will also find an ample supply of current videos in the ABC Videos on Demand section.
ABC Behind The News This program provides simplified coverage of the main issues of the day. Many of its reports are available from the video archive section and offer excellent introductions for students to current issues.

There are many radio programs relevant to economics teachers. Below is a list of a few of them. Nearly all ABC radio programs make mp3 files of their shows available. These are easy to edit and use as material in either your own or student presentations.
Some commercial TV stations make multimedia material available to support offline programming. These files are sometimes harder to use than the ones from the ABC. Often they have better copyright and security protection. A little perserverance means however that you can watch some very popular programs in class with your students.
