This section carries links to a selection of International Banks which regularly offer economic analysis and currency commentary to non subscribers. The number of resources here is much smaller than in the past because most banks offer these services to subscribers only.
Morgan Stanley MS offers a global economic forum, a global strategy bulletin and heaps of global economic commentary. For students of the Australian Economy this site regularly offers sobering, accurate and extremely well researched commentary on the AUD as well as comments on the Global Economy generally. This is one of the best sites of it's type on the Intern et and students following current developments in the external sector will find it extremely useful. The amount of free comment has dwindled over the years but the main economic commentaries are available in the insitutional section at Global Economic Comment.
Barclays This site offers regular economic commentary on the world economy and from time to time publishes economic reports on the Australian Economy as well as other country reports. Usually these are freely available however sometimes Barclay's may restrict access to subscribers only. Barclay's country reports usually refer to the outlook for the AUD. Barclays offer an economic outlook for the UK economy, an outlook statement for the International economy and a report on commodities. For country reports and currency information go to the Business Banking or insititutional sections and for current economic reports go Barclays Economic Reports The location of these reports at Barclays may change from time to time. UBS Warburg UBS Warburg offer Daily economic web casts on the Global economy presented by their leading economists. You need RealPlayer or windows media player to down load and here these reports. Most Warburg research is only available to subscribers however a range of US Economic reports and some currency commentary available for free.
Bank of America BOFA also offers a some material on US equities and industry analysis in the research section. Teachers may some of this material useful for teaching micro economics and providing current examples of market theory in action. BOFA only releases some of its research these days and only occaisonally covers currency movements. This site remains because banks frequently increase the amount of research they make available and then a year later change their minds and scale it down.
Northern Trust Securities Northern Trust is a Chicago based multi bank holding company which offers an excellent economic research section. This carries daily reports on the US and International economies and covers Australia. Economic outlook reports for major market and emerging market economies including Australia are available from time to time as well their economists notes on current economic issues.
Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi English Home Japan The banks view on current market developments and other economic issues can be accessed at of Tokyo-Mitsubishi Ltd.Most of the BTM's research is for clients only and is accesed through the North American( BTM North America )site. Of interest to tecahers is the Banks newsletter which often contains material on global economic developments. BTM often carries comment on AUD.
Standard Bank London This bank offers some economic commentary to non subscribers however it offers excellent charts on commodity prices and currencies for everyone. Students looking for a wide range of graphs will find this an extremely useful site even though it focuses mainly on Euroland. Standard Bank also has interesting sections on emerging economies that economic students might find interesting.
